The Energy Cluster had its last meeting for the year at Uniper in Karlshamn. The day started with a visit to Karlshamnsverket, where power plant manager Henrik Svensson told us about the business and guided us for an hour in the impressive plant. Karlshamnverket helps to create stability and spare power for the Swedish grid. One has an ambitious plan with activities to reduce emissions and negative environmental impacts.
After a vegetarian lunch in Uniper ‘s staff canteen, the cluster meeting started with the theme “The Global Objectives – from our own perspective”. Sofie Andersson from Schvung moderated the day and began the meeting with the question: Do you know the UN global goals. The answer was that 90% were informed about the goals. Katarina Hansell, project manager and responsible for the focus area of energy and NetPort Energy Cluster put it all in perspective by talking about individuals’ partial inability to address and act on reports on climate change. A book ” What We Think About When We Try Not To Think About Global Warming ” by Per Espen Stoknes was recommended.
This was followed by two presentations with Samuel Karlström from the County Administrative Board first describing Blekinge’s climate and energy strategy. Helena Waubert de Puiseau, communications officer from Uniper presented Uniper and Karlshamnsverket.
The cluster’s 5 working groups presented the status where Mats Jonsson started with Smart Buildings and the seminar that took place on October 26th. The installation of technology for measuring and controlling energy usage installed on NetPort’s office was shown. Mats also spoke about the announcement presented by the Viable Cities program and offered help if someone is interested in seeking funding for a project.
The activities in Long-term Behavioral Change were presented by Mats and Henrik Ny from BTH. Work is ongoing to provide training and skills development in the area.
Katarina described how the work in the Cycling Group progresses, where we see an opportunity to formulate a project to motivate more environmentally friendly transport and help the municipalities and the region basis for how and where future cycle paths should be built.
Katarina continued to give status to the Industrial Group‘s work where a seminar was held with leaders from large companies in the region in October. Obviously, the need differs from that of smaller companies.
Yi Chai, sustainability developer from NetPort Science Park, finished the presentations by the working groups talking about the Fossil Free Fuel Group. Collaboration with another project CLOUD (Collaboration in Logistics Operations and Urban Distribution) has created the conditions for an assignment from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth to map the supply of HVO100 service stations in southern Sweden.
Kerstin Eriksson from Energokontor Sydost continued to report on a learning project and to create increased interest in energy and climate issues and sustainable development in schoolchildren. She stressed the need for cooperation between municipalities, schools and business.
The day ended with presentations by 2 members, Blekinge Wind Power Economic Association and Ocean Harvesting Technologies AB. Both companies are involved in our project SmartBed Blekinge, which examines the prerequisites for a test bed for energy storage.
More information about the cluster’s activities in the coming year will be available later.
